Artist
Contemporary artist Sophia Natasha Wei (b. 1982, Singapore) pursues performance art as her main artistic expression. Her performances address the human condition, which she hopes her audience could recreate personal meanings and discover new experiences from. The corporeal endurance of the female body to achieve empathy is expressed through her visual language, where she works regularly with confines of space, distorted beauty and vignettes of dreamlike fantasy. In recent years, her works have evolved to present the liminal zone between painterly images and live action. As an experienced Art educator for 15 years, Sophia Natasha Wei (b. 1982, Singapore) believes in the power of Art as a medium for dialogue, identity formation, and cultural understanding. She is currently the Head of Department, Aesthetics, in Methodist Girls’ School. Her career spans teaching in diverse school settings, leading curriculum innovation, and curating interdisciplinary, student-led, and community-based Arts initiatives. Sophia Natasha’s understanding of critical pedagogy, policy, and contemporary practices and interest in Art’s role in shaping values, well-being, and civic engagement shapes her goal to contribute to transformative, inclusive Arts education and advocate for its impact on holistic student development. She aspires to lead, mentor, and influence Arts curricula and policy that support emotional wellness and foster 21st-century competencies in young learners.
